Jazz at The George IV - WestSideJazz & Friends

Come join us for a fabulous night of jazz featuring Swing, Blues, Ballads, and Latin tunes. With Richard Cook on vocals, Marcus James on piano, and Jamie Royan on double bass, they will be joined for this special show by Mark Phillips on Trumpet and Flugelhorn, and Paul Teesdale on drums.

WestSideJazz were formed out of a Jazz Café session at MEHR Clef 2024. Singer Richard Cook studied jazz vocals at Richmond Jazz School, singing with Cuban band Havana Good Time for ten years before forming Brazilian group Blame It On The Bossa Nova.

Marcus James studied jazz piano at Leeds College of Music, developing a lyrical style influenced by Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, and Wynton Kelly.

Jamie Royan is active in the West London music scene, playing with George IV regulars 59 de Ville and Jazz Mondays, in addition to The Ealing Very Senior Hot Jazz Orchestra, plus ad-hoc projects and events.

Mark Philipps learnt his craft in brass bands, big bands, and pit orchestras before and during his studies at Cambridge University, more recently turning his attention to bebop, playing in projects and bands including The East West Sextet.

Paul Teesdale studied drums at Richmond Jazz School and plays drums with Anacousis, Kewdos Jazz Orchestra, Havana Good Time, and What You Will.

The performance will include renditions of “Jeannine”, “Lady Bird”, “Senor Blues”, “Moanin’”, “I’ve Got the World on a String”, and “Moondance”, among other exciting numbers.
